Bruichladdich 2003 – Aged 22 years SINGLE CASK – Bourbon Barrel 53.6%vol 140 Bottles Only Filled – 25/05/2003 Bottled – 21/10/2025 Label – This is an original oil painting by a Danish artist – Bjarne Helverskov Abdersen. We used this image for 2 reasons, firstly it reminded us of the dunes at Kintra on the Stand, Islay, but most importantly it links nicely with this specific cask as it was painted by the grandfather of our friend who we purchased the cask from and it was nice to make this small tribute to them.
Why we bottled this – This barrel was part of a 4 cask parcel, we bought the entire parcel purely to get this cask. It is an absolute stunner. We’ve tried many private cask Bruichladdichs but few have the depth, texture and immense character of this one. We were immediately smitten. Genuinely upsetting for us that we only have 140 bottles to share globally as this one deserves to be tasted. This obviously means it’s a bit more expensive this one, but we think still represents very fair value for the age, distillery and exclusivity. We’ve done something slightly different with bottling this one, switching to a 20micron filter rather than the standard finer filters. We did this to give as close to a raw direct from the cask experience for our customers. The texture of this cask is exceptional and the wider filter helps preserve this. As a result, expect some very fine cask char sediment to settle but we think this only adds to the experience.
